I was thinking last night as I was not sleeping....
I really want to breastfeed and everything that I read lately about the subject makes it sound like rocket science and they recommend going to a lactation specialist and junk like that.
I guess I am looking for any tips, suggested reading, or maybe just pep talks.
Anybody have anything like that?

Just know that it's not always easy (especially the first 2 months, and the first month just hurts like nothing else), but you can do it.It is a great reminder that you need to sit and relax. And there is nothing better than embracing your child as he is snuggled up to you, receiving nourishment from you while you are giving of yourself to him.
Kim's has a friend whose mom is a lactation nurse (or whatever they are called). Maybe she could give you some tips.
BTW: 10 years ago could you have ever imagined us talking about stuff like this. Makes me laugh. In my mind we're still that crazy bunch of 16-year-old girls in the Princess-mobile making a video of our first drive together.
Totally worth the first 6 weeks! Turns out Logan was tongue tied which really messed up his "latch" (I'm sure if you've been reading up that word has come up about 80 gazillion times). I didn't get the help I should have at the hospital and didn't realize it until later so I guess that's one thing to expect, the nurses may tell you everything looks good but it might not be. If you go to the la leche league website and join their forums they are a great help! I continued reading them waaay after things got easy with Logan. I don't have the link here but I will write back when I get to work Monday. I never did formula but I can't imagine it being easier than nursing! I could go on and on (noticed?) but I'll stop there!
it all depends on the woman. for some, breastfeeding is a piece of cake and they have no pain. if you're one of the lucky ones, it will be extremely painful for at least the first few weeks. after I had Gavin, when it was time to feed him I would just start crying. in anticipation of the pain. I almost quit a dozen times. But I PROMISE if you stick with it, it will get better and you'll be so glad you can offer that to your baby. usually the hospital's lactation specialist comes to help you those first couple of days. I thought she was super helpful (both times). the hospital should send you home with a breastfeeding booklet, too. so I wouldn't worry about it. just a "heads up" that it might be hugely awkward and uncomfortable until you get the hang of it. you're going to be a great mom!
Thanks for all the pep talks. I'm feeling much better about the idea...just wish I could come up with a name for the poor child!
Ok, here it is. Seriously helped me a ton. I knew I could find the local LLL leader and she would be able to help but I'd much rather do things anonymously. http://forums.llli.org//
